Explanation of Weekly Tournament Competition
In Memoriam: It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Winfred John Gatlin, 68 after a brief battle with cancer. Windy "Guns" Gatlin was a member of the Charlotte Chess Club off and on for 40 years! Generally dominating the U1600 Section to the woe of his opponents, he will surely be missed by the scores of friends he has made throughout the years. A retired Duke Energy technician, he is survived by his brother, Jay Gatlin, his sister-in-law Cheryl, nephew, Justin and niece Christina. May he rest in peace.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Bale, Fuerstman Lead Top; Freeman, Birsan U1600 Section of McA79

Charlotte, NC 11-20-24: Eleven loyal members of the CCC royal guard converged upon this conveniently located and well sanitized venue more commonly known as McAlister's Deli in order to enjoy a wonderful meal, socialize with other adults, solve the Weekly Puzzle (White to Mate in 2!!), munch on "Big Cookies" and participate in Rd:1 of McAlister's 79. In the Top Section, Expert Shawn "Christian" Bale (2016)
became involved in a tentative middle game against Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1900) who stumbled in the end (See Game 2946) to share the lead with
the
Pride of Mental Hill, ex-Member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Survivor"
Fuerstman
(2000) who brilliantly sacked the exchange! (or rather, made the best of things after losing the exchange) versus upstart Mark "the Bird" Boyd (1593) who faltered in the end (See Game 2945) each with 1-0. In addition, Sammy "the Bull" Fuerstman (1642) made peace with Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1500). In the U1600 Section, Ilgin "the Mad Turk" Birsan (1490) outplayed Emmanuel Cooper (809) while John Freeman, Esq. put the kibosh on James "Ty" Cobb (1210) each with 1-0. In order to observe all results see "Crosstable." The CCC will conduct Rd:2 of McAlister's 79 on Wednesday, Nov 27 at 7pm! (We need new players!! If you've never played at the CCC, your first rated game will be FREE! USCF Membership required) Thank you for participating in CCC competition. - Long live the Charlotte Chess Club!!  Лиланд  ---Bring Equipment!
