NEWS & VIEWS 10-11-07
Newton
Leads Top; Myers "B"; Obey "C"; Futerman Lower Section of Wendy's
91 - (Round now starts
at 7:30 pm
sharp!)
Charlotte, NC 10-10-07: A moderate turnout of 23 of the most intense mental
jousters in the two Carolina's gathered at this square circle
more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's 91. In the Top Section,
the CCC's unofficial #1 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, 2006 Player of the Year NM Frankie "Bluffer" Newton
(2277) had a full 3 minutes remaining on his clock before NM Leland
"Ennui" Fuerstman (2032) stopped it to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, Expert Shawn "Arlo"
Pealer
(2084) clobbered Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1986), 13 year old phenom Samuel "Xman" Xin (1935) upset Expert Gary
"NightCrawler" Newsom (2040), driving all the way from Columbia, SC,
SCCA President Keith "Chucky" Eubanks
(2074) split the point with Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney
(1987) as did Expert Todd
"SquirrelBreath" Trower (2040)
with Team Davidson standout Expert James "Mason" Dickson (2029). In the "B" Section,
15 year old phenom Dominique
"the Dominator" Myers (1781) (who
has gained over 600 rating
points in 6 months!)
continues to roll as he used just enough kryptonite to do away with
mild mannered reporter Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1770) while Derek "Cats" Smith
(1720) did the Professor Moriarty thing to Dr. Gil "Sherlock" Holmes (1787) each leading with 2-0. In the Lower Section, Dr. Ron "Feet" Futerman (946) walked all over Copeland "Copie" Blackwell (956) to
lead with 2-0.
Other Lower Section winners were: Winfred "Guns" Gatlin, Reid Ward and Joe Benet. All
results may be observed on the current "Crosstable." E-mail lelandfue@yahoo.com

Trower, McCartney Share
Top Honors; Myers Dominates Lower
Section of Quaker
Steak III
Charlotte NC 8-18-07: A moderate turnout of 17 ambitious chessplayers
from near and far made a pit stop at Quaker Steak & Lube in order to participate in Quaker Steak III. (The private playing room was air
conditioned, well lighted and perfectly quiet!! - The cuisine was
delicious and reasonably priced). In the Top Section, Expert Todd "Squirrelbreath" Trower (2040) dispatched Samuel
"Xman" Xin (1927) in Rd:1, Jamie McGavran (1899) in Rd:2 and split the point with NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2033) in the final round
to share =1st-2nd Place with Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1953) who drew with 14
year old phenom Kevin "Spacey"
Huang (1841) in Rd:1, beat down Expert Randy "Deep
Thought" Lovelace (2034) in Rd:2
and prevailed against 15 year old phenom Thomas "HitMan" Paradis (1947)
in the Rd:3 each scoring 2.5-.5 and
winning $75.
In the Lower Section, Dominique "the Dominator" Myers (1601) surely proved himself
against the field as he upset the top 2 seeds! on his way
to capturing clear 1st Place
with a perfect 3-0
and collecting $70.
Clear 2nd Place went to Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1754) who scored 2-1 and
pocketed $35.
