Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at The Seafarer, 9306 Albemarle Rd. (Just past Walmart at Harrisburg Rd. on right) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. The time control is G60 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $50. "B", "C", Lower Free Entry next event. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees a private room with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, limited smoking in the "bar" and friendly management?! Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply show up at the site. NEWS & VIEWS 9-11-08Fuerstman Leads Top; Kliber "A"; Wheeless "B"; Eerenberg "C"; Alexander Lower Section of Seafarer II Charlotte, NC 9-10-08: A slightly weaker turnout of 11 very comfortable and well fed mental jousters continued to defy the boycott and reported to this well appointed banquet hall more commonly known as the Seafarer (Just look for the 3-D Whale!) where they enjoyed a delicious dinner prior to and during Rd:4 of Seafarer II. (In order to placate the management, the time control has been changed to Game 60! so we can be out by 10:00pm! This will allow more young players and early risers to participate). In the Top  Section, the CCC's
#6 player, the pride of Mint
Hill, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2000) employed the Budapest Defense against the CCC's #3 player
Expert Dr. Vladimir
Tkatchouk (2084) but faltered in the end (See Game 0755).
Despite the loss, Fuerstman
still leads with 2.5-1.5. In
addition, proving to the crowd that he is no mouse, Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1989) split the point with NCCA President the Honorable Charles R. "Randy" Wheeless (1664). In the "B" Section, Wheeless leads with 2.5-.5. In
the "C" Section, Nathaniel "E's" Eerenberg (1486) beat down Charles
"Tenor" Carerros (1168) to lead with 2-1. In the  Lower
Section, Michael Alexander (1395) squeeked by
Hassan Hashemloo (1048) to lead with 4-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Lee Moore. See "Current
Crosstable" for complete results. (The
facility was great! Everybody was happy! We hope more players join us
next week for G60! - |
