NEWS & VIEWS 8-16-12
McCartney Leads Top; Lucas "B"; S.
Fuerstman Lower Section of Skyland XXXVI
Charlotte,
NC 8-15-12: A stronger turnout of 27 of the most accurate
analyzers in the area converged upon this think
tank more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:4 of Skyland
XXXVI. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) In
the Top Section, the CCC's #1
player, NM Pat "Kahn" Sciacca (2175)
gained a slight edge in a Q & R's
middlegame versus Patrick "Flanker" McCartney
(2038) who incorrectly sacked
a Rook (See
Game 1092) and got away with it to
lead with 3-1.
Meanwhile, Expert Wil
"Mayhem" Mahan (2053) battled Michael
"Jordan" Kliber (1985) to a Draw
while the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame,
Top 65+ player in NC, write-in
Candidate for NCCA President,
NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2011) made peace with WFM Jenny Leveikina
(2106) (See Game
1091). In the "B" Section, Paul
"Survivalist" Lucas (1763)
methodically wore down prestidigitator David
"Copperfield" Blackwelder (1527) to lead with 4-0. In
addition, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin
upset Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1746) while Team
Asheboro Guru Tom "Terrific" Hales
(1789) outplayed
Judge Slobodan
Sinanovic (1816). In the Lower Section,
Sam "Son of Leland" Fuerstman (1064) blundered
away a clearly winning position versus Team
Asheboro's Homer "Simpson"
Cantrell (1333) but still leads with 3-1. Meanwhile,
Marat Kocharyan (1196) K.O.ed "Smokin"
Corey Frazier (1410), Joe Shirlen (962)
defeated Nino Matic (738), Harry Youchak
(1381) (who
actually resorted to flipping a coin in
order to decide upon a move!! LOL) beat
down Rich "Alert" Trela (1198), newcomer David
Hilley (Unr) bested Eric Hartung (1076)
and Dr. Ron Futerman (1179)
welcomed new member Benjamin
Purdy (992) to CCC competition. In
order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable" The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
one rated game of chess! Everyone
is welcome. Long live the CCC!

Clear 1st Place in Mint Hill VI
Mint Hill, NC
8-12-12: Four
loyal members of the CCC royal
guard converged upon the
palatial estate of NM LF
in order to participate in
Mint Hill VI (G65) and
enjoy a hardy lunch! In Rd:1,
"...look, up in the sky, it's a bird,
it's a plane, it's SUPERMAN
disguised as mild mannered reporter
for the Daily Planet Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1890) who
vanquished the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of
Fame NM Leland "Ennui"
Fuerstman
(2011) in Rd:1
while Paul "Survivalist" Lucas
(1762)
again
escaped certain death in a time
scramble from Judge Slobodan Sinanovic
(1816). In Rd:2,
Fuerstman's Fromm Gambit
prevailed over the good Judge while "Superman"
outlasted the "Survivalist." In Rd:3,
"Ennui Boy" barely survived
against Lucas while the "Bruce
Jenner look alike" agreed to Draw
in a time scramble with the Judge
to secure clear 1st Place with
2.5-.5
and win $40.
Fuerstman was 2nd with
2-1
winning $20.
See Crosstable.
An enjoyable time was had by all. Fuerstman
directed.
