Yesterday, 73 curious
chess people visited this website
hoping to read my comments! I have received a
number of reports; some very good, and some,
well, not so good!? However, out of respect
for a personal loss endured by one of the

NEWS & VIEWS 8-30-12
Skyland XXXVII Begins; Superheros
Bite the Dust! First Prize $100!
Charlotte,
NC 8-29-12: A light turnout of 21 of the most
competent calculators in the county converged
upon this institution of higher thinking more
commonly known as the Skyland
Family Restaurant in order to
participate in Rd:1
of Skyland XXXVII. (CCC members
got very comfortable
sitting
in
the
padded
booths and full size
tables and chairs while being
catered to by our own
personal waitress, Cindy.
Most enjoyed a
generously portioned delicious
home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!), drank fresh hot coffee and other
beverages, analyzed
on our demo board and monitored
the giant flat screen TV with the sound
turned off; open 24 hours!) Just prior to the round,
write-in
Candidate for NCCA President
NM LF addressed the
members and stated that "since we now have
an overwhelming majority of proxies, all
we must do is show up for the meeting
bright and early on Sunday morning at
8:30am and politely take over the
organization!? My first order of business
will be to abolish the use of proxies for
the election of officers!? My second will
be to process a long overdue audit by a
certified independent auditor..." In
the Top
Section, (Solve
McCartney's White Mates in 2!) Expert
Patrick "Flanker" McCartney
(2052) got creative in the opening against
superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1893) who
promptly blundered a Knight early and
couldn't recover (See
Game 1097) while the
pride of Mint Hill, ex-member of
the NCCA Hall of Fame, Top
65+ player in NC and Grandfather
of 4 write-in
Candidate for NCCA President,
NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2008) smuggled 100 gms of
kryptonite into the playing hall and went ahead
to quickly dispatch of another superhero in the
person of mild mannered reporter for the Daily
Planet, Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1891) aka Superman,
(See Game 1096)
each with 1-0.
In the "B" Section, Paul
"Survivalist" Lucas (1780) survived a
sea-saw battle where he won material early but
had to give some back before Dr. Ron "Dutch"
Breukelaar (1732) overlooked the winning move to
lead with 1-0.
In addition, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin
(1614) won a Pawn but ran out of ammo in an OCB
ending against rising star Sam "Son of
Leland" Fuerstman (1190) and had to
split the point! In the Lower Section,
"Smokin" Corey Frazier (1344) got back on
track with a win over Eric "Truth" Hartung
(1072), Harry Youchak (1233) bested Nino
Matic (721) - (hey,
check out this app!) and Curtis Ianni
(1236) defeated Luke Baer (933). In
addition, Rich "Alert" Trela
(1176) split the point with returning CCC
member Troy Fletcher (1042). In order to observe
all
results see "Current Crosstable" The
facility was great
and
everybody was happy! We hope that more
players will join us next
Wednesday to dine, socialize and play
one rated game of chess! Everyone
is welcome. Long live the CCC!

Clear 1st Place in Mint Hill VI
Mint Hill, NC
8-12-12: Four
loyal members of the CCC royal
guard converged upon the
palatial estate of NM LF
in order to participate in
Mint Hill VI (G65) and
enjoy a hardy lunch! In Rd:1,
"...look, up in the sky, it's a bird,
it's a plane, it's SUPERMAN
disguised as mild mannered reporter
for the Daily Planet Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1890) who
vanquished the pride of Mint Hill,
ex-member of the NCCA Hall of
Fame NM Leland "Ennui"
Fuerstman
(2011) in Rd:1
while Paul "Survivalist" Lucas
(1762)
again
escaped certain death in a time
scramble from Judge Slobodan Sinanovic
(1816). In Rd:2,
Fuerstman's Fromm Gambit
prevailed over the good Judge while "Superman"
outlasted the "Survivalist." In Rd:3,
"Ennui Boy" barely survived
against Lucas while the "Bruce
Jenner look alike" agreed to Draw
in a time scramble with the Judge
to secure clear 1st Place with
2.5-.5
and win $40.
Fuerstman was 2nd with
2-1
winning $20.
See Crosstable.
An enjoyable time was had by all. Fuerstman
directed.
